Application of Propensity Score Matching in Impact Assessment of Rural Finance on Technology Adoption

Farmer Interaction in Paschim Medinipur District, WB, India

Propensity Score Matching (PSM) is an econometric tool typically used in emerging economies. We applied this model to impact estimation of institutional finance on technology adoption and land use of small & marginal farmers in the villages under Kharagpur blocks (I & II) of Paschim Medinipur district. Farmers with credit access illustrate greater use of advanced technology and land resource. Still, socio-economic determinants and safety-nets restrict the farmer from credit access.
